Company History

ACT's roots were formed in 1971 in Miami, Florida, where two brothers, Jack and Jim LaFevre, both working as programmers for a major airline, began performing independent contract programming services on a part-time basis.

Jack LaFevre had been working as a Programmer for several years specializing in communications and real-time operating software development and support, and Jim LaFevre had been working in real-time applications software development.

During the mid-1970's, Jack LaFevre formed Systems Automation Technology (SAT). SAT operating as a consulting company, contracted their services and hired sub-contractors to work for them.

Systems Automation Technology was successful and continued in operation through 1986. Customers included organizations such as NASA Jet Propulsion Laboratories, Grumman Data Systems, Florida Power & Light, NASA Goddard, and others.

Jim LaFevre converted from a Systems Engineer to a Computer Systems Marketing Representative in 1978 and through successful performance was promoted to a Sales Manager position. Jim's sales efforts included successful employment with NCR Corporation, Datapoint Corporation, and Computer Task Group.

Jack's continued success in contracting technical services and Jim's success in sales led them to forming another business. In 1986, they formed Applied Computer Techniques. Jack filled the position of company President and oversaw all managerial and technical operations, and Jim functioned as Vice-President and oversaw all business and administrative operations.

From our beginnings in 1986 to the present, Applied Computer Techniques, Inc. has established an enviable record of accomplishments.  In that time, we have worked with small convenience stores to world-renowned organizations such as NASA Goddard Space Center and United States Steel Corporation.

Applied Computer Techniques, Inc., continues to successfully perform consulting services and staff augmentation, completing projects for Fortune 500 Corporations as well as small and medium sized organizations.
